Back in 2008, fifteen local health workers met together in a town in northern India for a three day meeting. They discussed the challenges of their work, shared their strengths, grew their relationships and planned their network. Fifteen years later, the network has grown to consist of 50 organisations that work closely together as a Cluster which is registered and working with the District Govermnent.
Being so successful, similar work has grown organically across nations, continents and cultures. These Clusters help their wide range of members to form connection and friendship, as they work far more effectively to improve health and wellbeing in remote and under-resourced communities.
Doing things differently.
Arukah works with communities according to a very different model to that used by many NGOs. We never go in and do things for communities. We believe that each community has the inherent gifts, abilities and skills to understand the nature of their problems and many ways to solve them. But they can't do it alone. Our Network comes in alongside to encourage, support, inform and train.
Our vision is to see health and well-being in the world’s poorest communities continuously improving. Our mission is to make this vision possible by growing a global network which connects and supports local leaders who are working to this end. And we can’t do this alone. We believe that you can play a significant role in helping us achieve this.
How you can help.
As the world struggles through a global economic crisis, we know finances are being squeezed for us all. However, for many of our Cluster members and their communities, this squeeze comes on top of years of battling hardship combined with recent climate emergencies like flooding and drought making life even harder.
You may not personally be able to travel through the mountains to work in a remote health clinic in Northern India, or travel down the bumpy roads to train health workers in Zambia. But you can still help!
Our Friends of Arukah programme provides a way for you to give towards our work as we connect and support the leaders working on the ground in their communities.
